 Lafitte Fishing by Capt. Donovan

Captain Donovan Hinton with Lagniappe Fishing Charters shares his expertise with us monthly in his articles found in Coastal Angler Magazine.   Let me share with you his June 2012 tip for catching the ‘big one’.

“The fishing in Lafitte/Barataria area is heating up day by day.  Lake Salvador has been a given for anglers using gold spoons.  Reds are moving south into Bayou Perot, Bayou Rigoletts and eventually Little Lkae  and Turtle Bay.  Gold spoons, Black & Chartruese or Glow with Chartruese Tail are producing great results.  Great fishing on the bottom with a jig head and market bait along the walls of Bayou Perot and Bayou Rigoletts or my favorite Carolina Rig.  Crack crab will produce Bull Reds in the Harvey Cut & the Temple for the next 3 months as long as the tides moving. "

The East side from The Pen into Bayou Dupont is getting grassy so be ready to fish weedless baits.  Top water lures will be a blast on hot mornings.  Specks will have to be caught from mud lake, south, do to the amount of fresh water up north.  Live shrimp are available at Joe’s Landing throughout the summer, they’re always the ticket for big yellow mouths.  Don’t be afraid to fall back on grandpa’s old Shad Rig to catch a few doubles.

August 29th is the opening day of alligator season.  Lagniappe Fishing Charters offers great combo packages.  Get Lafitte on your mind and your boat on the water, making family memories.  ”
