Bird enthusiasts will delight in the great number of species that grace the landscape of Jefferson. In April, visit Queen Bess Island off the coast of Grand Isle, the nesting site for the once almost extinct brown pelican, Louisiana's state bird. Jefferson boasts over 300 species including: Herons, Hawks, Doves, Hummingbirds, Swallows and Warblers.

Rare birds noted in CAPS should be reported to the Louisana Bird Records Committee (LBRC) on the Louisiana Ornithological Society's website.
